Food Markets

Summer is the best time to buy fresh British produce as it is at its best at this time of the year. To really take advantage of this you should try and frequent one of London’s many food markets. Borough and Greenwich are two of the most famous, but why not try a more local farmers market. They are dotted around London, and the chances are there is one near you that you just may not know about. Clapham, Ealing, Marylebone, Notting Hill Gate, Queen’s Park and Wimbledon all happen regularly, to name but a few. Try searching for one near you and you may well be surprised at how much great fresh produce you can get for your money.

Here are some special events happening at Markets around London this month.

On Sunday 21st June Queens Park Farmers’ Market, Salusbury Road, 10am - 2pm

The Garden Plant Fair
This year there are  some excellent new nurseries attending the garden plant fair at Queen’s Park. There will be a huge selection of bedding, annuals and perennials and also herbs and veg plants for those of you that want to grow your own. The plants on offer are great quality as they have all been raised by the nurseries selling them. So get out into your garden, allotment or window box now and prepare the ground ready for your new plants. Nurseries will offer great advice on how to grow the plants that they sell. Garden Plant Fairs offer one of the best selection of plants in London and as there is no entrance fee they are much better value than some of the big garden shows.

On July 17-19th at Covent Garden Market

The Afrofesta London 2009 (Caribbean/African Festival)

Enjoy the sights and sounds of the new 3 day festival of African/ Caribbean food, music and dance being held outside at the Market Square, Covent Garden Market, July 17-19, 2009. This will be a great chance to sample some authentic cuisine and have a fun day out.
